The Birth Day Place at Feather River Hospital is pleased to announce that they have been ranked in the top 15 for California’s Highest Scoring Hospitals for the Exclusive Breastfeeding Rate. Rankings were based on three criteria 1) exclusive breastfeeding rate; 2) the “any” breastfeeding rate; and 3) the difference between the “any” breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding rates.
The California Department of Health Genetic Diseases performed the rankings and is hoping that more hospitals and women will breastfeed their newborns. They believe that breastfeeding should be the community norm for infant feeding in California for at least the first year of life so that all infants have the opportunity for optimal growth and development and mothers and their babies are protected from many diseases now linked with not breastfeeding.
“The citizens of California benefit, as healthier women and infants have fewer medical expenses requiring hospitalizations and medications. In addition, breastfeeding leads to improved maternal-child bonding, which leads to optimal early child-development and fewer educational and social costs in the future.”-California Department of Health Genetic Diseases
Terminology: “Any Breastfeeding” includes those exclusively breastfeeding and those supplementing with formula. “Exclusive Breastfeeding” includes those who breastfeed only.
